George
D. Henning, M.D. A native
of Roanoke and graduate of VMI, Dr. Henning joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in 1972.
He served as a Captain in the U.S. Medical Corps and received the Army Commendation Medal
in 1966 after serving in Vietnam. He went on to complete his general and orthopaedic
surgery training at Vanderbilt and became Board Certified in 1973. His practice
includes nearly every aspect of orthopaedics including joint replacement, sports medicine,
and fracture management. Dr. Henning is the team physician for the Virginia Military
Institute and also conducts clinics at Catawba Hospital and Bedford Community
Hospital. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a
Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia. |

Thomas
K. Miller, M.D. After completing
his medical school and orthopaedic training at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Miller
received a sports medicine fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA. Dr.
Miller joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in 1986. In addition to his general
orthopaedic practice, Dr. Miller has specialty experience in sports medicine, arthroscopy,
and knee and shoulder reconstruction. As an extension of his sports medicine
practice, Dr. Miller has been team physician for the U.S. National Triathlon Team at their
World Championships and Goodwill Games. He served as Chair of
USA/Triathlon's Medical Committee for 15 years and is the team physician for the Salem
Red Sox baseball team. Dr. Miller is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery. His
society memberships include: The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery,
Virginia Orthopaedic Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American
Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Miller holds academic appointments as
Assistant Professor of Medical Specialties, Orthopaedics at Virginia
College of Osteopathic Medicine and as Clinical Associate Professor
of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia. |

Hugh
J. Hagan III, M.D. A native of
Roanoke, Dr. Hagan attended Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia Medical
School. He received general surgical training in Cooperstown, New York, and
completed his orthopaedic residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in
Charleston. Dr. Hagan joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in 1987 after completing a
year-long Fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Indiana Hand Center in
Indianapolis. His current practice is in hand surgery and orthopaedics. He is
an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with the University of Virginia
Medical School, Roanoke Program. Dr. Hagan is a member of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and is Certified by
the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Orthopaedics and Surgery of the Hand. |

Joseph
T. Moskal, M.D. A native of
Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Moskal received his M.D. from Washington University. After
completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia, he
completed a reconstructive surgery Fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation,
concentrating on total joint replacement and arthritis surgery. He then did an
additional Fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology at the Maryland Shock Trauma
Center. After joining Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in 1988, Dr. Moskal developed a
research program for us. He has authored numerous articles and publications
regarding his research. He is presently involved in several studies concerning
reconstructive surgery and total joint replacements. Dr. Moskal has been a Board
member of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society since 1990. He is a member of the
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Association for Arthritic Hip and Knee
Surgery, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of
Virginia. |

Brent
M. Johnson, M.D. A native of the
Roanoke Valley, Dr. Johnson attended the University of Virginia Medical School following
graduation from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. He received his
orthopaedic training at the University of Kentucky, where he also completed a sports
medicine Fellowship program. Dr. Johnson joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in
1991. He devotes much of his practice to sports medicine and is especially skilled
in knee and shoulder reconstruction and arthroscopy. Dr Johnson conducts sports
medicine clinics for the local recreation sports leagues. He is an orthopaedic team
consultant for a local high school team and the Roanoke Express Hockey team. Dr.
Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. |

James
T. Chandler, M.D. A graduate of
the University of Georgia, Dr. Chandler received his medical degree at the Medical College
of Georgia and orthopaedic training at the Greenville Hospital System in South
Carolina. He served as a Lieutenant Commander and orthopaedic surgeon in the U.S.
Navy, receiving the Naval Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. Dr.
Chandler completed Fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma at Grant Medical Center in
Columbus, Ohio, and in foot and ankle surgery at the Carolinas Medical Center in
Charlotte, North Carolina. He joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in 1992. He is
Roanoke's only physician with Fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery. His
practice also centers on sports medicine and general orthopaedics. Dr. Chandler is a
member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot
and Ankle Society. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at
the University of Virginia. |

John
W. Mann, M.D.
Dr. Mann is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic
surgeon with a broad experience in total joint replacement and knee
surgery. He joined the Roanoke Orthopaedic Center after serving as
Assistant Director of Orthopaedic Education and Trauma at Carilion
Memorial Hospital. Originally from Bedford, he completed his M.D. and
Orthopaedic Residency training at the University of Virginia. He
completed his fellowship training at the Insall-Scott-Kelly Institute for
Knee Reconstruction and Sports Medicine in New York City and the Technical
University of Munich, Germany. His primary interests include: Total
joint replacement surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, arthroscopic
surgery, and management of complex injuries to the lower extremity.
He is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons.

K. John, M.D.
Dr. John is a native of
Louisville

Kentucky
, and attended the

on a sports scholarship in swimming. He
received his medical degree from the

and did his orthopaedic residency at the

Alabama

Birmingham
. He completed a fellowship in
sports medicine at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and
Orthopaedic

. Dr. John’s primary
interest is in the arthroscopic treatment of injuries of the shoulder,
elbow, and knee. A national
speaker on several orthopaedic topics, Dr. John also served as an
instructor for the
Orthopaedic
Learning
Center
. He is a member of the
Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Catherine L. Daniel, M.D.
Dr. Catherine Daniel, a Rheumatologist, joined
the staff of
Roanoke
Orthopedic
Center
in July, 2007.
A native of
Roanoke
,
Virginia
, Dr. Daniel graduated from the
University
of
Virginia
. She then earned a master’s and a medical degree from the Medical
School of Virginia in
Richmond
. Dr Daniel completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in
Rheumatology at the
University
of
Alabama
at
Birmingham
, and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. She
is a Diplomat of the
American
College
of Physicians, a Fellow of the
American
College
of Rheumatology, is a Board member of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine and
the Roanoke Academy of Medicine Alliance, and President-Elect of the
Virginia Society of Rheumatology.
Dr. Daniel, her husband Charles Daniel, M.D., an Urologist with
Jefferson Surgical Clinic and their three children live in
Rocky Mount
,

.
A rheumatologist is a physician who
specializes in the diagnosis, management and treatment of arthritis and
autoimmune diseases. Rheumatic diseases are characterized by pain and
inflammation in the joints and associated structures, and muscle soreness
and stiffness. There are more than 100 types of rheumatic conditions,
including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic
lupus erythematosis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, and
osteoporosis.
Dr.
Daniel emphasizes that early treatment is very important for many of these
conditions, and that new treatments are now available for the treatment of
rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

, where he had a private solo and group practice for 22 years. In 1998, he
joined Lewis-Gale Clinic which became Lewis-Gale Physicians. Dr. Platt
devotes much of his practice to foot and ankle surgery and is especially
skilled in reconstructive foot surgery and diabetic foot care including
the prevention of diabetic foot problems and wound care. Another area of
interest is measuring for diabetic shoes and inserts
to help prevent diabetic foot problems. He is Board
Certified in foot and ankle surgery, podiatric orthopedics and primary
podiatric medicine all certified by the American Board of Podiatric
Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary
Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Platt is a Fellow of the
American

J. Patterson, M.D.

, Dr. Patterson is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and
earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After
finishing his orthopaedic surgery residency at the

, Shands Jacksonville, Dr. Patterson completed the OrthoCarolina
Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Joint Surgery in
Charlotte

North Carolina
. Dr. Patterson specializes in total joint replacement surgery and
disorders of the hip and knee. He enjoys helping people regain their
ability to walk, work and return to their normal daily lives. He is a
member of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He has been
asked to present research to the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons
and the Florida Orthopaedic Society. He has organized and attended
numerous medical mission trips in
Haiti

. Dr. Patterson is married and the father of two sons. He enjoys almost
any form of outdoor recreation.

A. Pruner, M.D.

- 2003After receiving
his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, and orthopaedic training at the
University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Dr. Pruner joined Roanoke Orthopaedic Center in
1973. He has many years of diverse experience in general orthopaedics including foot and
ankle, sports medicine, pediatric and adult surgery. Dr. Pruner served as Roanoke
Director of the University of Virginia Orthopaedic Residency Program from 1988-1993 and
President of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society. He is a member of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports
Medicine. Dr. Pruner has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
since 1974.
